Twilight Sequels Have A Screenwriter

The much anticipated Twilight movie release is coming up November 21st and the excitement is on par with the mid-ocean tidal wave that toppled the Poseidon!

The viral reaction to the movie and the stars in it has not gone unnoticed by Summit Entertainment. It’s like pulling the handle on a slot machine, knowing that it’s not only going to pay out, but that it will pay out on the next pull or two as well.

Summit Entertainment has taken note of their slot machine and is betting the bank on future pulls.

They’ve acquired the rights to the next three Stephenie Meyer books in the series titled New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

If Twilight turns out to be the hit everyone thinks or hopes it to be, then the good news is that they’ve hired Melissa Rosenberg to write the scripts for the next three. It’s good news because she’s the screenwriter for Twilight.

If Twilight doesn’t pan out, then… well, never mind! But how can it not? Oh, am I falling for the marketing again?

Some Future (slight spoiler) news:

In New Moon, Edward (The vampire played by Robert Pattinson) will leave Bella (Kristen Stewart). Bella gets bummed and hits it up with a werewolf. In Eclipse, the love triangle gets complicated and in Breaking Dawn, the plot gets even more complicated when Bella and Edward get married… oops, did I just type that?

Rosenberg has also written Step Up, and Dexter so she brings a fascinating combination of tale-telling to this fantasy franchise. In her attempts to keep things as fresh as possible, she’s avoided reading the next book in the series so she isn’t biased in her representation of the characters present state of being.

Marketing Finally Bites Me

I’ve almost completely avoided most the promotional material around this movie. I figured it was too teen-focused for me, but the media is generating attention.

Robert Pattinson caused a big disturbance at an appearance in San Francisco that resulted in some light injuries… before he even got there.

Or at an appearance where Pattinson had a 7-year-old girl request that he bite her. The frenzy is there indeed.

Then I accidentally came across the movie trailer, and it seems that I am doomed. I like vampire tales and other such fantasy franchises. Just like I enjoyed Joss Whedon’s Buffy and Angel series.

I think I’ll have to see this. Well, on principal alone, I hope this teen magnet movie does better than High School Musical. It would just be so much better on so many levels, I can’t even begin to understand it myself. (I just had to say that. I feel better now.)

‘Twilight’ takes over the world

From The Kansas City Star

Entertainment Weekly is planning yet another cover devoted to the movie “Twilight,” beating out James Bond and other heavyweights in the holiday movie preview.

Meanwhile, tickets sold out so fast for a screening of a 15-minute clip at the Rome International Film Festival later this month that another screening was added.

And now star Robert Pattinson ranks higher on IMDB’s Star Meter than Brad Pitt or Will Smith.

These are some of the fun facts released this week by Summit Entertainment, the studio behind “Twilight,” opening Nov. 21.

Here’s the studio’s complete list:

TWILIGHT has quickly become a huge worldwide phenomenon, developing a strong core base of dedicated fans who are drawn to the story of a Romeo & Juliet- style romance between a mortal (Bella) and a vampire (Edward).

Book Highlights:

The series of 4 books has sold over 17 million copies worldwide. Translation rights have been sold in 37 countries.

The series is a New York Times Best Seller and has been #1 for 47 weeks. Selected as the New York Times Editor’s Choice.

On USA Today’s Best Seller list for 96 weeks (TWILIGHT spent 6 weeks at #1).

BREAKING DAWN, the fourth book in the series and released on August 2, sold 1.3 million books in the first 24 hours.

For seven straight weeks after BREAKING DAWN was released, all four books in the series were on USA Today’s Top 5 Best Seller List.

The week BREAKING DAWN was released, TWILIGHT (released in 2005) had its best week ever and sold an additional 120,000 copies.

Online Highlights:

Recognition of the book has generated over 350 fan sites all over the world, including TwilightLexicon.com & TwilightMoms.com.

There were 14,314 online discussions within 123 communities about the film over the last two weeks ending in early October.

The official film website has received over 8 million visits, more than most film sites receive over the course of their life. Over 80% of the website’s registrants are between the ages of 13-24.

TWILIGHT is the 7th most searched movie on IMDb Pro’s MOVIEMeter (everything above it is already in theatres). Star Robert Pattinson is #5 on their STARMeter, ranking higher than Will Smith and Brad Pitt.

There was so much response to the TWILIGHT casting photos when they were initially posted, MTV.com’s server crashed. The response was very similar to in numbers to the likes of Harry Potter and Spider-Man franchises.

Since its release on MySpace’s Trailer Park, the first TWILIGHT teaser trailer has reached nearly four million views, comparable to Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

When EntertainmentTonight.com posted the second teaser trailer on their website, they received more views than any of their breaking news stories.

In the first 3 days of TWILIGHT’s second teaser trailer in mid-July, it was streamed 1.6 million times. Yahoo! expressed that this is one of the top 5 most popular trailers outside of any “summer movie.”

The debut of the final trailer in the TWILIGHT widget and on MySpace Trailer Park on Thursday night, 10/16, generated over 3.5 million views in the first 48 hours, and will surpass the views of both the first and second teasers.

Publicity Highlights:

Fan base generated thunderous applause and worldwide publicity at Comic-con International – with thousands of eager fans camping out the night before to see the cast and crew present new footage.

The Entertainment Weekly TWILIGHT Saga cover was the best-selling cover of the year for them, surpassing their Dark Knight and Harry Potter covers.

The first EW cover was so successful, they’re putting TWILIGHT on the cover of their Holiday Movie Preview over films like Quantum of Solace. It is rare for EW to feature the same film twice on their cover.

In late August, Extra aired their segment from Ashley Greene and Rachelle Lefevre’s H Magazine photo shoot, and it was the second-highest rated show in primetime, next to Ugly Betty. Additionally, they posted the segment to their website and got three times the traffic they get on the Jonas Brothers.

Vanity Fair will feature an entire cast spread in their December issue – one of over 50 magazine features on the film.

Ticket sales for the Rome International Film Festival sold out in a few hours, prompting festival organizers to add another screening. In Spain, over 1,000 screaming fans tried to get into a presentation at the Sitges Film Festival, more than 3 times the maximum occupancy.

Music Highlights:

After the soundtrack link was posted on Stephenie Meyer’s site, it shot up to #3 on Amazon (#1 in soundtracks) in less than 1 day…without a track list!!!

Paramore’s single “Decode” was streamed over 2 million times on Stephenie Meyer’s site, and has been streamed over 1.3 million times on MySpace.

The single was shipped to radio on 10/6, and is already over 1.6 million in audience at alternative rock.

As of Friday 10/10, “Decode” is approaching Top 40 after only 3 days at radio. It is the second-most added track on modern rock radio.

‘Twilight’ soundtrack to include Linkin Park, Muse and Robert Pattinson

Linkin Park, Collective Soul, Muse (author Stephenie Meyer’s favorite) and Edward himself, Robert Pattinson, will all have songs on the “Twilight” soundtrack, Chop Shop Records has announced.

Paramore has two, including the single “Decode” (hear it at www.stepheniemeyer.com).

Producers confirmed that all the songs will be heard in the movie (opening Nov. 21) as well.

Here’s the full track list for the soundtrack, due out Nov. 4:

Paramore's 'Twilight' Song 'Decode' Premieres On Stephenie Meyer's Web Site

Band scheduled to shoot a video for the song in mid-October.

By James Montgomery

Last month, MTV News brought you the exclusive that Paramore would be contributing a pair of songs to the soundtrack of the upcoming "Twilight" film, including the first single from the album, a spiky little slab of vampire lust called "Decode."

On Wednesday (October 1), "Decode" premiered on "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's official Web site, making it the first bit of new music to be heard from the soundtrack. The post on StephenieMeyer.com also says that the soundtrack's release has been pushed back to November 4, from the previously reported October 28 date. (The movie hits theaters on November 21.)

"The song is about the building tension, awkwardness, anger and confusion between Bella and Edward," Paramore frontwoman (and "Twilight" fan) Hayley Williams said in a statement. "Bella is the only mind Edward can't read, and I feel like that's a big part of the first book and one of the obstacles for them to overcome. It's one added tension that makes the story even better."

A source at Atlantic Records (which is releasing the album along with music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas' label Chop Shop) confirmed to MTV News that Paramore are scheduled to shoot a video for "Decode" sometime around October 13.

Late Tuesday night, Perry Farrell confirmed via press release that he too will have a new song on the soundtrack. "Go All the Way" will feature production work by Nine Inch Nails' Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder. More details on the soundtrack — including a complete track listing — are expected to be announced on Meyer's site over the coming days.

Twilight - In Theaters November 21, 2008
(bumped up from it's original December date!)

Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a bit different, never caring about or fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix, Arizona high school. When her mother remarries and decides to move with her new husband to Florida, and Bella decides to go live with her father, Charlie (Billy Burke), in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn't expect anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she's ever met. Intelligent and witty, his piercing eyes see straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance. Edward can run faster than any cheetah, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands, and he hasn't aged since 1918. Most importantly, he's a vampire. Like all vampires, he's immortal. But he doesn't have fangs, and he doesn't drink human blood (they're vampire "vegetarians"), which is rare among the vampire population. Instead, they go on regular "hiking" trips, where they feed on prey such as grizzly bears and mountain lions. For Edward, Bella is the thing he has waited ninety years for - a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. And what will they do when James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi), and Victoria (Rachel Lefevre) come into town and James sets his sights on Bella? Will true love prevail when Edward is forced to save her life and conquer his thirst?
